SUKHUM / AQW'A ― Freedom Square in Sukhum is now host to a festive fair, which will remain open throughout the holiday season until January 15th. The nation's principal Christmas tree was ceremoniously lit at Freedom Square on Friday, December 22nd.

Beslan Eshba, the head of the capital's administration, extended his festive greetings to the citizens at the tree lighting ceremony. He expressed his New Year wishes for the residents of Sukhum, hoping for prosperity in the coming year.

"It is with great joy that I extend my heartfelt New Year wishes to you all," Eshba said. "I wish you robust health, success, well-being, and peace. For our progression, peace and mutual understanding are essential. May 2024 bring joy and happiness to every family."

The celebration continued with a festive concert, showcasing talents from the Abkhazian music scene and young performers. The area surrounding the New Year's symbol was festively adorned, vibrant and colourful. Freedom Square features an open-air cinema for children, screening New Year’s fairy tales and cartoons, alongside a stage for festive performances by various artistic groups.

In addition, a New Year's market is set up near the main Christmas tree throughout the holiday period. Here, residents and visitors of the capital can indulge in a selection of treats and drinks.
