SUKHUM / AQW'A ― In Abkhazia, the first baby of the year was born in Sukhum. Avtandil Surmanidze, the Deputy Head of the Sukhum Administration, had the honour of fulfilling a joyful duty on the first day of the New Year 2024.

On behalf of the Mayor of the capital, Beslan Eshba, Surmanidze presented a certificate for 100,000 rubles to the mother, Oksana Tsvizhba-Adleyba, as reported on the Sukhum Administration's website.

For 26-year-old Oksana, this is her second child; her older daughter, Kamila, is only one and a half years old. The parents have decided to name the newborn Amina.

Avtandil Surmanidze also acknowledged the hard work of the doctors engaged in this noble task. According to the obstetrician-gynecologist Asida Bigvava, the girl was born at 02:26 in the night. The baby weighs 2.75 kg and measures 49 cm in length.

According to medical professionals, there were 235 newborns in Sukhum in the year 2023.
