Gudauta Claims Victory in Abkhazia's 2022/2023 Basketball Season

SUKHUM / AQW'A ― The Abkhazia men's basketball championship for the 2022/2023 season concluded, with Gudauta securing the title. The competition, which kicked off on November 13, featured two rounds and 14 stages across various cities in Abkhazia. Eight teams participated in the championship, competing in a total of 56 matches.

In a thrilling final, Gudauta faced off against the athletes from the capital and emerged victorious, winning the game with a final score of 99:80. The battle for the bronze medal saw Dranda and Real from Gagra go head-to-head, with Real ultimately triumphing with a score of 71:77.

All participating teams received certificates and medals, along with cash prizes.

Several outstanding players were recognized for their performances during the championship. Maxim Kachalov from the capital was named the best defender, while Denis Sangulia from Dranda earned the title of best forward. The best centre accolade went to Nikolai Romantsov from Gagra's 'Real', and the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament was awarded to Astamur Aslandzia from Gudauta.
