Irakli Khintba: "We are counting on the continuing cooperation and support of the members of Parliament in the development of bilateral relations between Abkhazia and Venezuela"

An Abkhaz delegation on a working visit to Venezuela visited on May 22 the Children’s Cardiological Center of the Ministry of Health of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The center is the country’s largest, and well-known throughout the region. This medical facility provides free quality treatment  to children with cardiac disease and makes it possible for their parents to stay with them. The center also trains surgeons for the whole region.

The delegation met with the hospital management to discuss the organization of health care in Venezuela and how the provision of free medical services functions. It was agreed to start consultations on drafting an agreement that will enable children from Abkhazia to receive free medical treatment at the center. At the end of the visit, members of the Abkhaz delegation donated blood for the treatment of children in Venezuela.

On the same day, at the invitation of the "Parliamentary Friendship Group of Abkhazia - Venezuela," the Abkhaz delegation visited the National Assembly - the country’s legislative body (parliament). Speaking at the opening of a meeting with MPs and representatives of  the executive authorities, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, Irakli Khintba, said: "We are counting on the continuing cooperation and support of the members of Parliament in the development of bilateral relations between Abkhazia and Venezuela. We value [Abkhazia’s] recognition by Venezuela, and I assure you that the decision by the President and the people of your country was only right and just. We are providing proof of that by the fact that today Abkhazia is developing dynamically, strengthening its statehood and raising the population’s living standards. Like the courageous Venezuelan people, we are upholding the ideals of freedom, self-determination, equality and social justice. In spite of the intrigues of our opponents, the Republic of Abkhazia is sure to achieve broad international recognition. The support of the brotherly people of Venezuela gives us additional strength and confidence in our actions."

I. Khintba highlighted the role of the National Assembly in strengthening the legal framework for cooperation between Abkhazia and Venezuela.

After a tour of the historic building of the National Assembly and a press conference for the media, Abkhazia delegation proceeded to the plenary hall, where a parliamentary session was in progress. Parliament speaker Diosdado Cabello interrupted the session to read out a greeting to the Abkhaz representatives that was met with a standing ovation by the absolute majority of deputies.
