Abkhazia and Syria Strengthen Ties: Discussing Bilateral Cooperation

SUKHUM / AQW'A ―  Inal Ardzinba, the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia, during his working visit to Syria, along with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, discussed various international and bilateral agenda topics, as reported by the Abkhazia Foreign Ministry's media centre.

The discussions covered the importance of ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region. The ministers commented on the illegitimate nature of Western sanctions against Syria. Mekdad emphasized efforts to expand Abkhazia's Middle Eastern contacts based on the Memorandum between the two countries' foreign ministries. A consulate of the Republic of Abkhazia is set to open in Syria soon.

Abkhazian professionals and diplomats will have opportunities for advanced training at the Diplomatic Institute of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Syria officially invited Abkhazia to participate in the upcoming major Damascus International Fair.

The Syrian Foreign Minister supported enhancing educational cooperation between universities in Abkhazia and Syria. The ministers also discussed Abkhazia's role in facilitating investment contacts between Syria and Russia, potentially in a trilateral meeting format.
