Spanish company offers a project to construct greenhouses in Abkhazia

SUKHUM -- Today Aleksandr Ankvab had a meeting with representatives of a Spanish company specialising in the construction of vegetable greenhouse-complexes. The Director of the Institute of Agriculture, Lësik Ajba, participated in the meeting.

Representatives of the company held a presentation of the project for high-tech greenhouse-complexes on the basis of a comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of different types of greenhouses already existing in different countries.

The proposed project focuses on the environmental conditions in Abkhazia and the characteristics of soils in different regions of the Republic. The particularity of the proposed project resides in the fact that the greenhouses are designed to cultivate vegetables - cucumbers and tomatoes - with the help of organic rather than chemical fertilisers.

During the presentation of the project, the President noted that for the government several factors are important relating to the implementation of these projects: the production of environmentally friendly products, a reasonable portion of expenditure, the possibility of creating greenhouse-farms for servicing the needs of the tourist-industry's own production and satisfying the internal market as a whole.

It is also important to achieve such scales of vegetable-production as would allow local producers to move into the foreign, thoroughly competitive market.

"We shall investigate all aspects of the proposed project and clarify in a fairly short time whether we shall work on it or continue the process of choosing. After all, proposals in this area are numerous,"said Aleksandr Ankvab.

Information about this was provided to ApsnyPress in the Office of Information under the President.
